This interview was conducted in full by Mississippi Braves broadcaster Blake Scott. With his approval, we are posting the interview in full here at Talking Chop. Make sure to give Blake a follow on Twitter (@bascott2010) for lots of good information on the goings on with the Mississippi Braves.
Sean Rodriguez was signed by the Braves in the offseason with the hope that he would be able to provide a lot of defensive versatility both for the bench as well as with lineup construction. His ability to play all over the field in conjunction with what was a breakout offensive season for him in 2016 (1.8 WAR, .270/.349/.510, 18 homers, 56 RBIs) on an inexpensive deal was seen as a real boon for the team.
However, things are not always fair. In the offseason, Sean and his family were in a horrific car crash involving a stolen police car in a high speed chase that T-boned the SUV that Rodriguez and his family was traveling in near Miami (where the family resides in the offseason). While his wife and kids did sustain mild to moderate injuries, Sean initially appeared to get away mostly unscathed physically. However, later examinations showed that he needed surgery to repair his left shoulder and bicep and many thought he would lost for the season. However, right at the MLB All-Star break, Sean began his rehab assignment ahead of schedule.
Blake Scott was fortunate enough to be able to talk to Sean about his recovery, his goals for 2017 and beyond, as more. The interview in its entirety is posted below. Enjoy!
