Happy Sean Newcomb day!
The young left-hander takes to the mound in San Diego on Tuesday evening, as the Atlanta Braves come back from an off day (read: travel day) to face off against the Padres. Newcomb has been tremendous during his short career in the majors and, if nothing else, provides ample reason to stay up late to watch baseball.
Newcomb sports a 1.96 ERA through three starts and 18.1 innings. Even if that is aided by some positive luck (3.58 FIP, 4.34 xFIP), the 24-year-old has been quite fun to watch and his stuff, from the left side of the mound, has been startlingly impressive.
In opposition, the Padres will send former Braves legend Jhoulys Chacin to the hill. The 29-year-old right-hander has a 4.95 ERA in 15 starts (83.2 innings) and, in general, Chacin is a hittable target for the Braves and others. It should be noted that Petco Park is not exactly a haven for offense but, on paper, Atlanta has a pitching advantage this evening.
Stay up late with us and stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest.
