The Braves lost another winnable game on Wednesday night as they fell to the Angels by a score of 2-1.
Eric Young Jr. hit a solo homer off Arodys Vizcaino in the 8th inning to give the Angels a 2-1 lead. That would prove to be the difference in the game as the Braves couldn’t do much in the 9th.
Matt Kemp hit his second homer in as many days off Jesse Chavez in the 2nd inning to give Atlanta a 1-0 lead. That was it for the Braves’ offense. The club averaged just 2.6 runs per game in San Francisco and Anaheim.
The Angels tied the game at 1-1 in the 7th inning. With runners on first and second, Shane Robinson grounded a ball to Rio Ruiz at third. Ruiz fielded the ball and stepped on third base for an out, but he made a poor throw to Jace Peterson at first. Jace probably should’ve fielded it, but instead the ball skipped away and allowed the Angels to plate a run.
Jaime Garcia was strong for his third start in a row, working seven innings of one-run ball (which was unearned). He only struck out two and walked three, but he did a good job keeping the ball on the ground and limited hard contact. His ERA for the season is down to 3.18 and has allowed just one run over his last 18.2 innings.
The Braves will get a much-needed off day on Thursday to travel to Cincinnati. They’ll kick off a three-game series with the Reds on Friday night with Mike Foltynewicz taking on Bronson Arroyo. First pitch is at 7:10 p.m. ET.
