Cafardo: Ben Cherington is “possible” candidate for Braves GM

While the Braves may not be actively interviewing candidates as of the time of writing, that still won’t keep names from coming up in speculation. One person who has been linked from afar is former Red Sox GM and current Blue Jays Vice President of Baseball Operations Ben Cherington. Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe had this to say about the situation:

Cherington is getting a lot of attention as a possible GM candidate in Atlanta. Team president John Hart will make the call if he’s left standing after the international player scandal that cost John Coppolella his GM job.

The part about Hart is an interesting caveat, since there’s also the idea that if Hart vacates his current position (either by choice or by necessity) then that could possibly clear the way for Dayton Moore to come back into the fold — even if Moore’s return is looking less and less likely as the days go by.

Bregman’s walk-off hit puts Houston one win away from World Series title

If you stayed up to watch Game 5 of this year’s World Series between the Astros and Dodgers, then you were treated to an extremely long game filled with twists, turns and more drama than TNT could ever dream of dealing with. In my futile effort to succinctly sum it all up, I’ll just say that this was easily one of the best World Series games of all time and a walk-off victory (that came from a hit from Alex Bregman) was honestly a fitting way to end this absolutely zany game.

Gabe Kapler will reportedly be the next Philadelphia manager

The Phillies have figured out who they want their next manager to be and I definitely agree with the author of this post in that Philadelphia has made an extremely bold decision. They’ve reportedly decided to hire Gabe Kapler as their manager and while fans who lean heavily towards the sabermetric side of things will probably love this hiring no matter what, the author also noted that with Kapler’s past incidents, this does have the potential to blow up at any time. Still, it’s a very intriguing hire.

Washington will go with Dave Martinez as their manager

Meanwhile, another one of the Braves’ divisional adversaries has filled their managerial vacancy and the Nationals have raided the team that knocked them out of the NLDS. Cubs bench coach Dave Martinez has reportedly accepted the offer to become the manager of the Nats. This will be Martinez’s chance to branch out after spending plenty of time under Joe Maddon’s wing and now he’ll be given a chance to win immediately if the Nats continue to stay strong after another offseaosn.
