Braves beat writer Mark Bowman examines the Atlanta offseason plan and what priorities the front office may have over the winter. The biggest priority at present is likely a resolution to the turmoil that currently plagues the organization, but after that Bowman believes the Braves will be active in making upgrades at certain positions as well as unloading unnecessary pieces.
As the Braves enter the offseason and attempt to take another step toward re-establishing themselves as legitimate postseason contenders, they have an obvious need to make room for top prospect Ronald Acuna and a definite desire to upgrade their bullpen.
Recognizing the possibility Acuna could be ready to make his Major League debut on Opening Day, the Braves will place much of their early focus on trying to trade one of their corner outfielders -- Matt Kemp or Nick Markakis. There is certainly a desire to part ways with Kemp, but the two years remaining on his contract became more of an albatross as his conditioning once again became a concern during this year's injury-plagued season.
A recap of the first week of the Arizona Fall League, where the Braves are well-represented by some of the top prospects in the organization. In short, Touki Toussaint was excellent on the mound while Austin Riley and Alex Jackson showed off the immense power that both possess.
In the first game of a new week at the Arizona Fall League, Braves left-hander Max Fried pitched five scoreless innings for the Peoria Javelinas, striking out four and allowing just one hit. Fried was perfect through four innings to begin the game, but was lifted after allowing two runners to reach in the fifth. Fried continues to impress, building upon a solid debut at the major league level in 2017.
The Yankees got their first win of the ALCS on Monday, besting the Astros to make the series 2-1 as they returned home. CC Sabathia gave the Yanks six scoreless innings, while Aaron Judge and the New York offense piled up eight runs to take a commanding victory in game three. The series continues on Tuesday as the Yankees look to draw even with Houston.
