Braves finally win in San Diego, 4-2

Julio Teheran pitched eight strong innings as the Atlanta Braves snapped a long losing streak in San Diego with a 4-2 win. Ender Inciarte and Chase d'Arnaud finished with three hits each with Inciarte finishing a homer shy of the cycle.

Williams Perez to the DL, John Gant recalled

Williams Perez left Monday's game against the Padres after 4 1/3 innings due to soreness in his tricep. The Braves placed him on the disabled list Wednesday due to a strained rotator cuff. John Gant was recalled from Gwinnett to replace Perez on the active roster.

Braves trade Kelly Johnson to Mets for Akeel Morris

For the second straight season, the Atlanta Braves have traded Kelly Johnson to the New York Mets. The Braves sent Johnson and Juan Uribe to New York at the deadline last summer for John Gant and Rob Whalen. This time, the Braves acquire pitcher Akeel Morris.

Meanwhile, Akeel Morris is a pretty decent pitching prospect. The 23-year-old right-hander has been pitching at the AA level for the Mets this season and currently has a 4.62 ERA and a 4.36 FIP. Our friends over at Amazin Avenue think pretty highly of him, as they ranked him the #22 prospect in the Mets' system in their Top 25 prospect rankings for 2016. Additionally, Morris does have MLB experience under his belt -- granted, it was just one relief appearance last season and he was sent right back down afterwards, but he's seen the big leagues, so that counts for something. Either way, he's a decent prospect and there's a good chance that he'll be seeing more of the bigs in the future.

Braves down to 3-man bench after Wednesday's trade

Wednesday's trade of Kelly Johnson left the Braves with just three position players on the bench for their series finale against the San Diego Padres. Atlanta is off on Thursday and will open a weekend series against the Chicago Cubs Friday at Turner Field. The AJC's David O'Brien reports that shortstop Erick Aybar is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Sunday and that Jace Peterson could replace Johnson on the active roster.

The Braves will add a position player before Friday’s series opener against the Cubs, and are expected to bring shortstop Erick Aybar off the 15-day disabled list Sunday, the first day he’s eligible to return. While team officials wouldn’t discuss options for Friday’s callup, it’s possible the Braves could bring back infielder Jace Peterson from Triple-A Gwinnett.
