After taking an early 1-0 lead on Monday night in the first inning, the Padres' scorching hot bats kept up the fine work by knocking out Williams Perez in the fifth inning with a 6-spot in the San Diego runs column. Despite only being outhit 11-9 in the game, the Padres coasted to a 7-2 victory in game one of the series.
Blair will head to the mound on Tuesday night in search of his first career MLB win. Things have been a real struggle for Blair, especially of late. His ERA in his past three starts is 13.91, and the righty has totaled just 16 strikeouts in 31 innings pitched this season. Blair has gotten in trouble with a lack of fastball command and an out-pitch in his recent starts.
On the hill for the Padres is another struggling young righty in the form of Colin Rea. Rea has a 6.46 ERA in his last three starts. He's 3-2 on the season with a 4.85 ERA. In his only start against Atlanta, Rea two runs in 5.2 innings in his second career start and picked up in the win last August. Only Adonis Garcia, Nick Markakis, and A.J. Pierzynski had plate appearances in that game that are currently on the roster.
