I know that many of you will be shocked, but the Braves have made another roster move and, yes, that move involved John Gant
John Gant optioned to Triple-A, Casey Kelly recalled by the #Braves as revolving bullpen continues— David O'Brien (@DOBrienAJC) June 6, 2016
The Braves are continuing to try to figure out which arms they want in the bullpen in the majors, which guys they want in the minors either getting stretched out or in the pen there, and which guys that they may need to move on from.
For John Gant, the constant shuffle between Triple-A and Atlanta has to be frustrating, especially for a player who seems to be a starter in the minors, but only a bullpen option in the majors at this point.
As for Casey Kelly, he will not have a lot of chances to prove himself at the major league level with the glut of pitching talent in the minors right now. He took one for the team when Aaron Blair was called back up when he came on in relief on short rest which all but guaranteed that he would be sent down. Perhaps this call-up is a bit of a thank you from the Braves..but he is also a useful player for a spot start or in long relief. How the Braves will utilize him remains to be seen.
