John Gant has been a bit of a surprise for many Braves fans this year. After coming out of spring training as a strong bullpen option, Gant has been the Braves go-to guy in terms of roster moves as he has racking up the mileage reimbursements between Gwinnett and Atlanta.
However, of late he had found more stability in the rotation and had been performing well. Unfortunately, against the Indians Gant had to be removed from the game early with an obvious lower body injury. Turns out, the injury was to his left oblique and was serious enough to warrant a trip to the DL
Casey Kelly will be replacing Gant on the roster and he has seen his fair number of trips back and forth from Gwinnett this season as well. In 8 games for the Braves this season, Kelly has a 5.79 ERA, 4.60 FIP, and 1.71 WHIP while sporting a 4.09 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in AAA in 2016.
