Braves vs. Mets Preview: Atlanta goes for series split against New York

Bud Norris will look to keep up his solid work as the Braves try to split the series against the Mets.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

After a dominant three-game sweep last week in which the Braves outscored the Mets 15-4, Atlanta will need a win on Sunday in game four of the series to salvage a split.

Julio Teheran continued his dominance against the Mets on Saturday night by following up his one-hit complete game performance with eight scoreless innings. Unfortunately, the Braves' bats were unable to give Teheran any run support, though he did try to help his cause with two singles in first two plate appearances.

On the mound for Sunday afternoon's game will be the rejuvenated and newly coveted Bud Norris. In his four starts since returning to the rotation, Norris has posted a 2.82 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 22.1 innings. The Braves have won his last three starts. Norris has started against the Mets once this season. He allowed five runs on five hits and two walks over four innings in a 6-3 loss on April 22.

His counterpart will be the Braves' killer, Bartolo Colon. Colon is 9-2 with a 2.44 ERA in 12 career starts against Atlanta. He has also been in good form. Before having to come out after retiring one batter in his last start because of a line drive that hit his thumb, Colon had gone five consecutive starts with at least five innings pitched and two or less earned runs. In his only start against Atlanta this year, Colon threw eight scoreless innings whiles striking out seven in a 4-1 win on May 2.
