Aaron Blair’s had a rough go of it at the Major League level so far, and it was capped off by an ugly appearance against the Mets last night. New York roughed Blair up last night, as the rookie gave up eight earned runs in just 4.1 innings.

As such, the Braves have decided that it’s time to send him back down to AAA Gwinnett for the time being, as the team announced today that he’s been optioned to the G-Braves, with Matt Marksberry making his return to the big league squad.

Marksberry only has one appearance at the major league level this season, and that came against the Mets back in late April. The lefty did have an ERA of 5.01 and an xFIP of 5.35 over 31 appearances with the Braves last season, but he has been sitting on an ERA of 2.84 over 20 appearances for the G-Braves so far in 2016, so there’s that.

Blair currently has an ERA of 7.99 and a FIP of 5.99 over 11 starts for the Braves this year, so it was very clear that the prospect was dealing with some serious struggles at this level. This will be the second time that he’s been sent down to Gwinnett after a call-up, so he’s clearly still got to figure some stuff out before he starts looking comfortable at the big league level. Still, he’s only 24 so he’s still got plenty of time to figure it out and the Braves will surely give him further opportunities to do so.
