A series win against the Cincinnati Reds doesn't look overly impressive on paper. After all, their bullpen is horrible and their record is almost as bad as the Braves' 22-46 mark.
However, a series victory over the New York Mets is nothing to turn your nose up at. And going into Sunday's game, the Braves have already locked that up, and are looking for a sweep.
If Atlanta is going to be able to break out the broomsticks, it will have to get past Jacob deGrom. The long-haired right-hander only has a 3-3 record through 11 starts, but boasts and impressive 2.82 ERA.
The Braves will counter with their own ace, Julio Teheran, who has been great this season. He only has a 2-7 record to show for it, as he's pitching for a really bad team, but his 2.93 ERA is really good.
Freddie Freeman has been on a tear of late, but is just 2-for-13 against deGrom. One of those hits was a home run. Nick Markakis is the only other Brave with an RBI against deGrom. Adonis Garcia is 2-for-3 against him, while A.J. Pierzynski is 0-for-9 lifetime.
Against Teheran, Curtis Granderson is 4-for-15 with a homer, Neil Walker is 2-for-11, and Wilmer Flores is 3-for-10 with a homer.
The pitching matchup is great. Runs should be at a minimum. First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. ET.
