Game Preview: Braves try to make it 2 in a row vs Cubs

MLB: Atlanta Braves at Los Angeles Dodgers Kelvin Kuo-USA TODAY Sports

In a sentence I never thought I would type this season the Braves look to take 3 out of their first 4 games from the Cubs on the season. To do so the Braves have an uphill battle as they square off against Cubs star pitcher Jake Arrieta. If you are unaware of this Jake fellow he is what you call an ace. Coming in to this afternoon’s game Jake is sporting a 1.77 ERA and 2.35 FIP. His 9.79 K/9 is the highest of his career and he boasts a 5 pitch arsenal including a 4 seam, sinker, slider, curveball and changeup. He works between 80 to 96 mph and is everything you could want in a pitcher.

Some notable numbers against Jake include Francoeur’s 3-for-10 (2 singles, HR), A.J. Pierzynski 8-for-14 (5 singles, 2 homers, 1 double, 1 IBB), and Jace Peterson 2-for-4 (2 singles) - exactly who you would think would do well off of him. Others include: Nick Markakis 0-for-9, Ender Inciarte 1-for-6, Adonis Garcia 0-for-3, Freddie Freeman 2-for-8, and Tyler Flowers 1-for-7.

The Braves counter with Matt Wisler who is 2-6 with a 3.98 ERA and 1.120 WHIP on the season. Wisler is looking to rebound after a horrific performance against the Dodgers on June 5th where he gave up 8 runs courtesy of 3 homeruns. His ERA ballooned nearly a full run after that game. While the sample size isn’t huge almost everyone outside of Arrieta has hit Wisler well so this will be a good test to see if he can bounce back after a shaky outing. Now that I’ve made you properly disappointed and ready for this game here’s where you can watch it:
