Braves vs. Pirates Preview: Blair looks for first major league win

The Braves will look to win their 10th game of the season before falling 20 games under .500 on Tuesday night in Pittsburgh.

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

In the midst of plenty of other news going around in the Braves' organization, Atlanta will play its second game of a four-game set against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.

In the series' opener on Monday night, the Braves' offense managed to find some production with a multi-home run game, but the pitching, which had been faring a little better of late, failed to do its part, and the Pirates came away with an 8-5 victory. The loss was the Braves' ninth in the past 11 games.

Taking the mound on Tuesday night will be Aaron Blair, who is still in search of his first big league win. It has been a bad of mixed results thus far for the rookie. While he has managed to limit the amount of damage done against him in his four starts, his walk and strikeout rate through 20 innings is definitely something that needs to be improved upon. Blair's sits at 0-2 with a 4.05 ERA and 4.70 FIP.

Blair's opposition will be Juan Nicasio. Nicasio has struggled heavily of late, allowing eight runs in 10.1 innings over his last two starts. On the year, he's 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA. He's fallen victim to control problems during many of his starts this season. The Braves have had great success against Nicasio in the past -- especially Freddie Freeman. Nicasio is 1-4 with a 9.64 ERA against Atlanta in six starts. Freeman is 6-12 with four home runs and four walks against Nicasio.
