Fredi Gonzalez is no longer the manager of the Atlanta Braves, as news broke on Tuesday morning that the team elected to fire their manager of more than five years. Now, we know who Gonzalez's replacement will be, and the interim manager will not be forced to make a lengthy journey.
Brian Snitker will become the Braves manager today.— Mark Bowman (@mlbbowman) May 17, 2016
Snitker, who many Braves fans will remember as Atlanta's third base coach from 2006 through 2013, was previously the manager of the triple-A team in Gwinnett. The 60-year-old has served in that capacity since the start of the 2014 season, and it isn't a surprise to see the organization lean in this direction.
Prior to the move to part ways with Gonzalez, speculation was that the Braves would be choosing between names like Eddie Perez, Terry Pendleton and even Bo Porter, but Brian Snitker gets the call as Atlanta (presumably) begins its search for a full-time candidate.
