Stop me if you've heard this before, but the Atlanta Braves are in a 1-0 series hole. The team fell to the Kansas City Royals by a 5-1 margin in Friday's opener, struggling again to generate effective offense in support of Julio Teheran, but Atlanta will have a chance to even the series on Saturday evening.
In the second of three contests, the Braves will send Mike Foltynewicz to the mound against Kansas City's Dillon Gee. Foltynewicz put together arguably the best start of his short MLB career last week, striking out 8 members of the Diamondbacks while navigating seven innings and allowing only two earned runs. The 24-year-old brings a great deal of arm talent to the table, and tonight's match-up against the Royals could be an interesting barometer for Foltynewicz, especially when it comes to stringing together back-to-back quality outings.
Offense is always the bigger issue for the Braves, though, and they will face a pitcher making his first start of the year. Gee, who Braves fans will recognize from his stretch with the New York Mets, has appeared in seven games out of the bullpen this season, but the 30-year-old right-hander gets his first call to begin a game on Saturday, and Atlanta will look to take advantage of a fringy starter in this spot.
Stay tuned throughout the day for all the latest, and let's do this together.
