Julio Teheran has lately been getting Shelby'd.
In seven innings, Teheran allowed just one earned run, but again had no support from the "offense" behind him as the Braves drop the opener of this weekend series by a 5-1 score.
Teheran was in the soup right off the bat. Alcides Escobar singled to start the game, but the ball scooted through Jeff Francoeur's legs and Escobar reached third easily; shortly thereafter, he would score on a groundout.
Escobar would drive in the second run for KC in the second inning with a single, scoring Cheslor Cuthbert who doubled with one out. The throw from Francoeur was laughably bad.
Atlanta threatened to score against Edinson Volquez in the fourth putting two on with one out, but failed. The Braves scored their lone run in the seventh on Erick Aybar's sacrifice fly. This cut the Royals' lead to one, but the defending champs put the game away in the eighth against Hunter Cervenka with a three spot on run-scoring singles by Kendrys Morales and Salvador Perez. The runs were the first allowed by Cervenka in 16 games.
Teheran falls to 0-4 while the Braves fall to 6-9 on the road. This is the fifth straight start where he's allowed two runs or fewer. Volquez tossed seven innings for the Royals, allowing six hits.
