Jhoulys Chacin headed to Angels

Boom goes the trade dynamite. No word on the return as of yet.

No longer Chacin the dream as a Brave, apparently

Let's cut to the chase, for once:

No word yet on the return, or even who will start in place of Chacin in the rotation. So this may be an exciting day both on and off the field for the Braves.

Chacin has pitched reasonably well as a Brave across five starts, with a 3.92 FIP and a 3.32 xFIP. His 5.40 ERA is marred by him getting blasted for eight runs (four homers) in four and two thirds against the Mets in his last start, but the Angels clearly saw something they liked. Either that, or they are reeling from a rash of UCL injuries to relied-upon starters Garett Richards and Andrew Heaney.

We'll update as we get more, but for now, speculate! (We're not getting Trout. Or Simmons back. Sorry.)

UPDATE:

Everyone who saw this coming, raise your hands, then give yourselves a pat on the back.

Adam McCreery was a 22nd-round draft pick in 2014. He's had fewer than 40 professional innings in rookie ball to date, and showcased a big arm last year, striking out 35 percent of the batters he faced. However, he also walked 18 percent of them, which means he's another one of those live-armed guys the Braves have been accumulating in earnest.
