Once it gets to three, you can call it a winning streak.
The Atlanta Braves have taken each of the first two games in the series from the Miami Marlins and are looking for the sweep on Sunday afternoon at 1:10 p.m. ET at Marlins Park.
The Braves currently sit at 2-9 on the season, but have looked a lot better over the last two nights, with a pair of solid victories. Today, they will send Jhoulys Chacin to the mound, who was outstanding in his first start of the season. He only went six innings and threw 69 pitches, because manager Fredi Gonzalez pinch hit for him in an attempt to score a run.
Chacin came to Spring Training on a minor league contract, and is coming back from shoulder problems that limited him to just 15 starts over the past two seasons. He could be a diamond in the rough for the Braves pitching staff if he proves healthy over the course of the year.
Former Brave Martin Prado is 6-for-16 against Chacin, while Dee Gordon is the only lineup regular that has a home run off of Chacin. Giancarlo Stanton has had very little luck against the righty, as he is just 1-for-10 with five strikeouts against him.
The Marlins will counter with Jarred Cosart, whose first start was not quite as impressive as Chacin's, but the righty is 3-0 with a 1.66 ERA in his career against Atlanta. Erick Aybar is hitting .400 (4-for-10) against Cosart and Freddie Freeman is 3-for-9 with a home run.
Getting that first win out of the way on Friday night seemed to loosen up the Braves and relieve some of the pressure and scrutiny that comes from such a bad start. An about-face with a sweep would calm the waters and leave the team feeling pretty good about themselves.
