Gordon Beckham is one of several veteran players that are looking for a fresh start with the Atlanta Braves in 2016. Beckham is among several position players to show up to spring training early and got some swings in on Monday.
Beckham saw his average dip to a career-low .209 in 2015. He will be looking for improvement on that number and could play a part for the Braves as a utility player capable of filling in across the infield.
Many have Beckham penciled in as a possible platoon candidate at second base with incumbent starter Jace Peterson. However, Beckham let it be known at the team's FanFest event at Turner Field that he is coming to camp with the intention of being the team's starting third baseman. Beckham was taking ground balls at third base on Monday as well.
Other position players that have arrived early to camp include Mallex Smith, Dansby Swanson, Braxton Davidson, Jace Peterson, Hector Olivera and Ender Inciarte among others.
