Travis Demeritte continues to be recognized for his performance in the Arizona Fall League this season after being named to the AFL’s official Top Prospects Team. This most recent honor comes after MLB Pipeline named Demeritte to their All-AFL team and being named the No. 19 AFL prospect by Jim Callis.
Demeritte was all over the AFL leaderboard this season, leading the league in triples (4) and total bases (48) while hitting four homers (tied for second) and posting an .855 OPS (12th).
The Braves No. 9 prospect — according to MLB Pipeline — has long been known for the power that he brings to the table. He hit 28 home runs in high-A this season, five through 53 games last year and 25 long balls in his first year of full season ball in 2014.
However, during the AFL he also impressed coaches, scouts and writers alike with his defensive work at both the keystone and the hot corner.
With Demeritte and Keon Wong (Tampa Bay Rays) the two second basemen on the team, Ian Happ (Chicago Cubs) was nowhere to be found despite being one of the top second base prospects in the game. Callis ranked Happ as the No. 8 prospect in the league but mentioned Chicago’s top prospect might have to move to an outfield corner in the future.
Regardless, it’s nice to see Demeritte playing well against some of the top talent in the minor leagues. Congrats to him for yet another AFL honor.
