MLB Draft order 2017: Braves enter Sunday with wide range of outcomes

New, 42 comments

The Braves could pick as high as 2nd ... or as low as 6th.

As a handful of teams around the league battle for the final wild card slots, the Braves and six others are battling for the top picks in the 2017 Draft.

The Braves come into Sunday with a 67-93 record, a .419 win percentage. That currently gives them the 3rd pick next summer. Since the game last Sunday was postponed due to Jose Fernandez's horrific death, Atlanta will only play 161 games hence why the win percentage will come into play.

The Twins have locked up the 1st pick. They are really bad.

The Rays are 67-94 (.416%)

The Braves are 67-93 (.419%)

The Athletics, Diamondbacks, Padres, Reds are 68-93 (.422%)

If the Braves win on Sunday

They will pick 4th, 5th or 6th.

The Braves can't fall below 6th because the Diamondbacks or Padres are guaranteed a win playing head-to-head, giving them a better record than Atlanta.

The Braves also can't pick 1, 2 or 3 as they couldn't catch the Twins, Rays or the loser of Diamondbacks vs. Padres, who would be 68-94 and the Braves would be 68-93.

The A's, Rays and Reds winning would all help the Braves. Any teams that win in this scenario (with the Braves winning, too) will draft behind the Braves. Any teams that lose will draft ahead of the Braves.

If the Braves lose on Sunday

They will pick 2nd or 3rd.

Rays win, Braves get the #2 pick. Rays lose, Braves get the #3 pick. Simple as that if Atlanta loses.

So there you have it. The Braves and Tigers will conclude their seasons at 3:10 p.m. Sunday.
