Andrelton Simmons remains out of the lineup for the Atlanta Braves, but took ground balls Tuesday night and could return to the lineup soon.

The Atlanta Braves put a pair of players on the disabled list on Tuesday, but the prognosis for shortstop Andrelton Simmons continues to improve. Simmons took ground balls on Tuesday and manager Fredi Gonzalez hinted that if all goes well he could be back in the lineup by the end of the week according to the AJC's David O'Brien.

"No tears, no breaks. So, that's good. Just a little bone bruise," Simmons said. "A little blood, so the swelling is there. Just got to get rid of the swelling and wait for the soreness from the bone bruise to go down."

Simmons suffered the injury in Saturday's loss in Philadelphia. He underwent an MRI on Monday that revealed a bone bruise, but no ligament damage. That is obviously great news and Simmons could be back as soon as the swelling goes down and some of the soreness goes away.

Simmons has appeared in 101 games for the Braves this season and is hitting .254 with three homers and 30 RBIs. Daniel Castro will make his third straight start at shortstop in place of Simmons Tuesday night.
