The good news is that Adonis Garcia probably won't play a worse game than he did last night, and it's all uphill from here. He went 0-4 at the plate and committed three errors in the field. Those errors led to four runs for the Rockies, which ended up being pretty important because Colorado ended up beating the Braves by four runs. The other good news is that Atlanta didn't get shut out in this one; Nick Markakis brought in Andrelton Simmons for the Braves' only run in this one. Also, Adonis tweeted this following the game:
Some days you definitely do not want them to arrive, "Today is one of those" sorry...— Adonis Garcia (@adonis84cuba) August 26, 2015
Hang in there, man. Again, things can't get worse than this!
I've said it a few times now, but it bears repeating: Poor Shelby Miller. As far as the pitcher win stat is concerned, the guy can't catch a break, and it's mostly due to the fact that he's received atrocious run support during his starts. Even though that's happening, his performances on the mound have still been good-to-excellent, so at least he has that to hang his hat on. Also, Miller is taking a gracious approach to discussing his winless streak:
One of the bright spots in the bullpen this season has been the performance of Arodys Vizcaino, who has been solid as a rock ever since he slid into the closer role. In fact, Vizcaino hasn't given up a run in his last 13.2 innings. His ERA is at 0.48 and his FIP is at 2.22. In addition, he's been bringing the heat; He's been topping 100 mph with some of his pitches lately. As such, it seems like Vizcaino's got the tools to be a potential closer of the future for the Braves, instead of being just a stopgap during a rebuilding campaign.
"He's what you're supposed to look like on the back end of the bullpen, whether that's the seventh, eighth or ninth inning," Atlanta manager Fredi Gonzalez said.
Thursday will be another landmark day during the construction timeline of the Braves' new home in Cobb County, as the team will be holding a ceremonial laying of the first bricks at the new stadium. In addition, there will probably be some more news concerning the stadium at this ceremony, so it's definitely worth paying attention to. In other news, Cobb County will be borrowing $376 MM for the construction of SunTrust Park, and they'll be paying $22 MM a year in order to pay off that debt, so there's that.
Carlos Gomez had a pretty interesting night at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday night. The Astros' trade deadline acquisition broke out of a nasty slump by going 2-6 with four RBI and a homer as the Astros absolutely crushed the New York Yankees 15-1. Also, as us Braves fans have figured out by now, Gomez wears his heart on his sleeve and this can get him in hot water at times. Tuesday was no different, as you'll see below:
Tuesday ended up being a bad night for the Yankees. Not only did the Astros take them behind the woodshed, but they also ended up losing ground in the AL East race since the Toronto Blue Jays ended up winning their game against the Texas Rangers. Troy Tulowitzki was the hero for the Jays, as his clutch hit in the ninth inning tied the game, then an error from Adrian Beltre helped put the Jays in front for good.
