The Braves, believe it or not, held the first lead of the game, scoring in the third inning on a single by Nick Markakis. That seemed like enough for Julio Teheran despite his long first inning; he threw 36 pitches, and the Padres loaded the bases, but Teheran escaped unharmed. However, one pitch in the sixth cost him the lead when Yangervis Solarte tied the score with a home run leading off the inning.
Neither Teheran nor Tyson Ross would figure in the decision as both departed after six innings. Teheran struck out seven in six innings; Ross struck out five, allowing six hits.
Unfortunately, the bullpen's struggles (or poor bullpen management, pick one) reared their ugly head once again. The Padres scored twice against Matt Marksberry on doubles by Austin Hedges and Yangervis Solarte to take the lead. Atlanta got one run back in the eighth, but nothing else as the Braves are swept (again) at Petco.
Markakis had three hits and both RBI for the Braves; Michael Bourn had two hits, but caught a case of the "Barves" when he was picked off in the third inning, right before the Markakis RBI single.
