Game Thread 5/6: Braves vs. Phillies

New, 383 comments

Wednesday evening marks the rubber match between the Braves and Phillies, with Mike Foltynewicz on the mound for Atlanta.

The Atlanta Braves received a lights-out pitching performance from Shelby Miller on Tuesday night, and with that, the team snatched a lopsided 9-0 victory against the Philadelphia Phillies. That win evened this week's series at 1-1, and Wednesday night's contest will serve as the rubber match between the two teams.

The headline story of the night for the Braves will be the second MLB start for hard-throwing youngster Mike Foltynewicz. The 23-year-old allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings in his debut last week, and it will be interesting to see how Foltynewicz responds in his second outing, especially against a pedestrian offense from the Phillies.

In opposition, the Phillies will send Jerome Williams to the mound. Williams sustained mild success against the Braves in a previous outing on April 26, allowing three runs in 6.2 innings on the way to a win. Still, he is a largely unimpressive option in a vacuum, and the Braves could take advantage if all goes according to plan.

As mentioned throughout the week, it is never a good look to lose a series to the current version of the Phillies, and that makes Wednesday night important. Stay tuned throughout the evening and enjoy the game with us.
