Game Thread 5/5: Braves vs. Phillies

New, 332 comments

The Braves aim for a bounce-back win over the Phillies on Tuesday evening.

The Atlanta Braves began this week's series against the Philadelphia Phillies with a thud on Monday night, falling by a final score of 5-2 as Aaron Harang and Jeff Francoeur (yes, Jeff Francoeur) took control of the festivities. Fortunately, the Braves are still playing the hapless Phillies on Tuesday night, and once again, it is a favorable pitching match-up for Atlanta.

Shelby Miller, and his sparkling 2.17 ERA, takes the mound for the home team, while veteran Chad Billingsley gets the ball for the Phillies. Miller has been quite good since arriving in Atlanta as a part of the Jason Heyward trade, and while his peripherals indicate that the low ERA could be a bit of a mirage, his early form is encouraging. On the flip side, Billingsley has not seen any regular work as a starting pitcher since 2012 (!), as the former Dodgers standout has battled all kinds of injury issues.

Also of note, the Braves will once again go with Cameron Maybin in center field, and the former Padres outfielder will be making his fourth consecutive start, leaving some wonder if Fredi Gonzalez has made a full-time switch at the position.

It would be beneficial for the Atlanta Braves to get a victory on Tuesday night, and we will be here with you throughout the evening. Let's enjoy this one together.
