The Atlanta Braves and Philadelphia Phillies begin their second series of the season on Monday evening, and Turner Field serves as the backdrop. The home team enters on a positive note, as they salvaged a series split with a victory on Sunday afternoon, and well, the visiting team isn't very good at baseball.
In game one, old pal Aaron Harang gets the ball for the Phillies, and he will be opposed by Braves left-hander Alex Wood. On paper, that is (obviously) an advantage for Atlanta, but Harang has actually out-pitched Wood to this point in the season, even if that makes little to no sense in a vacuum.
Beyond that, Alex Wood was shelled in his last outing, allowing five earned runs in five innings during a 13-4 loss to the Nationals. It is far too early in the season to panic about Wood's lack of success, but it would still be nice to see the prized left-hander dominate a bit against an over-matched Philadelphia offense.
At any rate, there are worse things to do on a Monday evening in May than rolling with us through a Braves-Phillies game, and we'll be here all night. Stay tuned.
