Prior to Saturday's game, the Atlanta Braves made a roster move calling up infielder Pedro Ciriaco from Triple-A Gwinnett. To make room on the roster, the team sent down reliever Ian Thomas.
Atlanta carried an extra pitcher for Friday's game after starter Mike Foltynewicz replaced third baseman Chris Johnson on the team's active roster.
Ciriaco was one of the final cuts of spring training. He appeared in 20 games with Gwinnett and was hitting .234 with one homer and seven RBIs. Thomas appeared in four games for the Braves allowing one earned run in 3 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out three.
Fredi Gonzalez indicated on Friday that he planned to continue to use a platoon at third base with Johnson out. Ciriaco could see some playing time at third along with Alberto Callaspo and Phil Gosselin.
Atlanta shifted Mike Minor to the 60-day DL to make room for Ciriaco on the 40-man roster.
