Braves Minor League Recap 5/16: Jason Hursh's strong start leads Mississippi to win

Jason Hursh picked up his first win of the season in Mississippi while Rome knocked off Asheville for its third straight win.

A sacrifice fly by Louisville's Ryan LaMarre broke a 1-1 tie in the eighth inning of a 3-1 win by the Bats over the Gwinnett Braves. Sean Kazmar and Cedric Hunter combined for five hits, but Gwinnett couldn't generate much offense. Eury Perez, Daniel Castro and Adonis Garcia went a combined 0-12.

David Rohm's first inning home run was the difference for the Mississippi Braves in a 1-0 win over Pensacola. Jason Hursh turned in a good start scattering three hits over six shutout innings to earn his first victory of the season. Closer Ryan Kelly allowed three straight singles to load the bases in the ninth but worked his way out of it with a pop up and a pair of strikeouts to earn his ninth save of the season.

Carolina jumped out to an early lead over the Pelicans with an RBI single by Keith Curcio in the second inning. Myrtle Beach took the lead in the fourth with a sac fly and an RBI single. The Mudcats tied things back up in the ninth with a solo home run by Jose Briceno. The score would remain tied until the 12th when Mark Zagunis led off the inning with a triple and later scored on a double by Jeimer Candelario. Carolina put two on in the bottom half of the inning but Sean Godfrey grounded out to end the threat.

A three-run sixth inning propelled the Rome Braves to a 6-3 victory in Asheville for their third straight win. With the score tied 2-2, Codey McElroy scored Tanner Murphy with an RBI single putting the Braves in front for good. One batter later, Joseph Daris provided some insurance with a triple scoring McElroy. Daris scored on the play thanks to a throwing error by right fielder Drew Weeks. Rome tacked on another run in the seventh on a double by Matt Tellor. Alec Grosser picked up the win on the mound allowing three runs over 5 1/3 innings for Rome.
