Things are going well for the Atlanta Braves in Miami, as the team has claimed each of the first two games in a weekend set against the Marlins. In an interesting twist, both results went in Atlanta's favor by the exact same score of 5-3, setting an interesting tone for Sunday's finale.
In that finale, the Braves will send Shelby Miller to the mound, and the young right-hander has been the best pitcher on the staff this season. Miller's sparkling 1.60 ERA speaks for itself, and against a Miami lineup that can certainly be tamed (outside of Giancarlo Stanton), he will have a reasonable chance to keep his stellar ratios in tact.
Miami will throw an interesting wrinkle into the festivities, though, as Henderson Alvarez will be activated from the disabled list in time to make Sunday's start. The Marlins were scheduled to deploy Tom Koehler in the finale, but Alvarez has always given the Braves fits, and even in a loss earlier in the season, the 25-year-old allowed only two runs in seven innings of work. It also should be noted that Andrelton Simmons has been given the day off for Atlanta, while it appears to be just for the purpose of rest.
Sweeps are tough to come by for anyone in the Majors, and that is especially true inside the division. The Atlanta Braves can make a strong statement by completing a road sweep on Sunday, and day baseball is always fun in and of itself. Stay tuned throughout the day.
