Mike Minor's throwing shoulder has bothered him for years. This week, he will undergo surgery to repair whatever is wrong in his shoulder, which probably means he has thrown his final pitch in a Braves uniform.
This ends any chance Minor has at pitching in 2015, and it would seem likely the Braves will non-tender the former top-10 pick this winter. It's a real shame considering how promising Minor looked just two years ago; in 2013, Minor went 13-9 with a 3.21 ERA and 3.37 FIP over 205 innings.
Minor first dealt with a bit of fatigue in soreness down the stretch in 2013 and then had an awful 2014 campaign that was hampered by shoulder issues of some kind. He never really got close to pitching in the big leagues this year as he dealt with inflammation. The southpaw was moved to the 60-day disabled list on May 2nd with GM John Hart hinting that Minor was nowhere close to being ready to return.
Best of luck to Mike in his recovery.
