Arizona Fall League Recap: Thurman rebounds, Lien struggles

Connor Lien and Andrew Thurman were in action on Thursday and while Thurman rebounded, Lien did not

Brett Davis-USA TODAY Sports

Peoria Javelinas 2 vs. Scottsdale Scorpions 5

Box Score

  • Connor Lien, CF: 0-4, 3 K
  • Andrew Thurman, RP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

The Javelinas continued their struggles on the season as they fell to Scottsdale 5-2. Fortunately for Andrew Thurman, he held up his end of the bargain. This is relevant because for much of the AFL season, Thurman has struggled. While he has only pitched a total of 7 innings, his ERA currently sits at 14.14 and thats after this game's clean outing. Hopefully he can finish the season strong and take the lessons learned in to next season.

As for Connor Lien...well, this game was not his best effort. He went 0-4 with 3 strikeouts in the game to bring his average in the AFL down to .159 where he has struck out 19 times in 44 at-bats. To say his production in the AFL has been disappointing is an understatement, but its easy to forget that he is 21 years old, playing with coaches and players he, for the most part, hasn't played with, and is two time zones away in front of crowds that get above 600 on a good day. In short, while it would be nice to see Connor raking down in Arizona, I'm not willing to draw to many conclusions from his time down there especially when playing time isn't a regular thing.
