Mesa Solar Sox 5 vs. Peoria Javelinas 14
- Johan Camargo, SS: 1-5, 1 BB, 2 runs
- Daniel Winkler, RP: 2.0 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
It would be easy to get excited at first glance given that the Javelinas went off on the Mesa Solar Sox and were victorious, 14-5. Sadly, Connor Lien had the day off and his replacement had 6 RBIs including a grand slam, a stolen base, and an outfield assist (Philip Ervin for those keeping track at home). Johan Camargo, however, DID play in the game and got in on the fun a little bit with a hit while scoring a couple of runs. Camargo has batted .235 thus far in the AFL and one hopes that he can add more line drives to the prolific contact he makes at the plate. Most of his outs are currently ground balls so if he could make a little harder contact, he could bring his BABIP north of .300 which would help his status as a prospect quite a bit.
Daniel Winkler pitched a couple innings in this game as well and was mostly effective. He pitched a quick 1-2-3 inning to start with, then the Solar Sox manufactured a run against him after a single, walk, groundout, sac fly resulted in the only earned run that Winkler would give up on the day. Winkler did get a couple of strikeouts as well and seems poised to see plenty of time in the Braves' bullpen to start the 2016 season.
