Today, we are going to take a look at the best walk-offs/bat flips/celebrations for the Braves in 2015. Sadly, the Braves are pretty deficient in the bat flip category (although there are sample size concerns given that the Braves are not known for their home run prowess). There was a bit of concern that, given the Braves poor season last year, that there would be a dearth of options period, but as it turns out there were quite a few moments during the year that warrant recollection and consideration.
1.) AJ walks off against the Phillies
We will start with the most recent and work our way back. The good news is that this particular walk-off was by AJ Pierzynski who will be, in all likelihood, catching a large portion of the games next season for the Braves. It also locked in a rare sweep for the Braves against the Phillies. However, negative points must be awarded as this gave the Phillies an edge up in the race for the number one pick in the 2016 draft.
2.) Andrelton wins it for the Braves against Toronto
Just a little bit more salt in the wound as we look at Andrelton's 4th and final walk-off hit as a member of the Atlanta Braves. He laced a ball the other way to beat a very good Blue Jays team late in the season. While certainly a competitor, one thing to admire about Andrelton's celebrations are that he doesn't get so caught up in the moment that he isn't aware of his surroundings or can't try to escape various beatings or drenchings.
3.) Maybin hits walk-off against Max Scherzer on controversial call
Maybin had a couple of options available for this category as he hit a walk-off two -run shot. However, that was against the Diamondbacks whereas this was a very controversial call and it was off of Max Scherzer (who had been dominant most of the game) and the Nationals who are always a joy to beat.
4.) Christian Bethancourt's first MLB home run is a walk-off
Another strong entrant in to the category, Christian Bethancourt's first major league home run was a walk-off. He just barely cleared the fence with this opposite field shot, but it got the job done. Also a strong showing in terms of the celebration with the helmet flip and charge in to the masses at home plate.
5.) Jace Peterson walks off against the Brewers
A personal favorite is Jace's walk-off single against the Brewers early on in the year. This was during a time when the Braves were staying reasonably competitive and Jace was among the better hitters on the team. He seemed to have a knack for getting on base (and his numbers with the bases loaded were rather good as well) and this was certainly a potential watershed moment for Jace at the plate. The year ended up being a bit of a disappointment from Jace, this was still a great moment.
As always, if you think there is another celebration that warrants the award or have some sweet footage of Braves bat flips, vote for "Someone Else" and let us know about them in the comments. Happy voting!
