- Mauricio Cabrera, RP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 1 R (0 ER), 1 BB, 1 K
Today was a good day for Braves prospects as Peoria held off Glendale to keep their championship dreams alive with a 4-3 win. We will start on the offensive side of the ball as Connor Lien and Johan Camargo were both in action. Johan finally had a breakout game of sorts as he reached base 4 times out of the two-spot in the lineup and scored one of Peoria's runs. His average is back approaching the good side of the Mendoza line (hooray small samples!) and can still finish the AFL season strong. Connor Lien had a productive day at the plate, reaching base twice while stealing a bag as well. More importantly, he did not strike out his this game which is certainly newsworthy. Hopefully he can bring his plate discipline up to par because a player with his tool set could be a very good player if he could put up a good OBP consistently.
On the pitching side, Andrew Thurman and Mauricio Cabrera were in action. Thurman, who has been inconsistent at best in the AFL, had a good outing. He threw two scoreless innings while allowing just a hit and a walk while striking out two batters. If his pattern holds, his next outing will be less than ideal, but hopefully he can break the trend. Mauricio had a pretty good day, although he didn't help his own cause at a couple of points. He had a throwing error and a wild pitch which led to an unearned run, but he also didn't allow a hit and notched the save for the Javelinas. There is also this fun fact (which was before this game)
Theres been 47 pitches thrown 100 MPH+ in the #AFL: #Braves Mauricio Cabrera 32 #Giants Ray Black 14 #Twins Nick Burdi 1 10 pitchers 99+

Here is hoping that Mauricio takes a big step forward with his control and can join the Braves bullpen as another power arm as opposed to a player like Juan Jaime who the Braves unceremoniously shipped out.
