The upside of the Braves being terrible since mid-July? A top-3 draft pick!

The Atlanta Braves will have the No. 3 overall selection in the 2016 MLB Draft next June.

The Braves came into Sunday battling with the Rockies for the 3rd and 4th draft spots. Despite the Braves sweeping St. Louis, the Rockies rallied for seven runs (7!) against the Giants in the 9th inning to lock Atlanta into the 3rd spot. Two Braves wins and a Rockies loss would've given Colorado the 3rd spot due to the tiebreaker of last year's record.

The Phillies will have the No. 1 pick next summer. The Reds, who won one game the final two weeks of the season, locked up the No. 2 pick. Then it'll be the Braves, Rockies and Brewers rounding out the top five.

The Braves #EmbracedTheTank quite well in August and September before finally righting the ship a bit over the final two weeks. When you consider the club was once 42-42, it's pretty remarkable (and sad) that Atlanta was able to get a top-three pick.

We still have a long way to go before the draft, though there are plenty of names to start getting familiar with. Baseball America has a great write-up on the candidates to go No. 1. In short, there's no bonafide star, though it appears next year's class has more depth than the last.

Vegas has set the money line on the Braves taking a pitcher at -2200.

Given the overhaul of the farm system in the last 12 months, plenty of money to spend on the international free agent market, and a handful of high draft picks next summer, this rebuild appears to be ahead of schedule.
