Arizona Fall League Recap: Winkler, Odom have good days

Daniel Winkler and Joseph Odom were in action for the Peoria Javelinas on Friday night and both were productive

Peoria Javelinas 1 vs. Glendale Desert Dogs 4

Box Score

  • Joseph Odom, C: 1-3, 1 RBI
  • Daniel Winker, RP: 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 K

Well, the bad news if you are a Javelinas fan (which I can only assume is very few of you based on the attendance at the games) is that the Javelinas fell to the Desert Dogs 4-1 as the Javelinas continue to nestle into last place in their division and second worst record in the AFL. The good news is that Joseph Odom showed some life at the plate with a single and an RBI. Odom has batted .133 in the AFL thus far after posting a slash line of .222/.285/.403 in his second year at high-A. He was a somewhat surprising inclusion in the AFL, but its good experience for him to carry back and help mentor young pitchers as they come through the minors.

Daniel Winkler, who is using the AFL as a way to get some game reps in before presumably joining the Braves bullpen in 2016, was excellent as well. He didn't get the strikeouts that we have come to expect from him, but he pitched a clean inning of relief and did so on just 8 pitches. Winkler has been mostly effective during his time in the AFL and while some of his numbers in the don't exactly jump off the page, he is ultimately is still rehabbing and its good to see him make strides.
