The World Series gets underway on Tuesday and its completion will set into motion many of the events that make up the offseason. Here is a look at some important dates and what they will mean to the Atlanta Braves.

Free Agency opens - (Five days after the World Series ends)

On this date, Major and Minor league players not signed or reserved officially become free agents. A.J. Pierzynski, Ross Detwiler and Edwin Jackson are the three players on the Braves' 40-man roster that will become free agents.

DL Reinstatement - (Five days after the World Series ends)

Also on this date, the Braves will have to reinstate all of the players currently on the 60-day disabled list. Atlanta currently has five players on the 60-day DL including Jason Grilli, Mike Minor, Paco Rodriguez, Shae Simmons and Chris Withrow. Dian Toscano remains on the team's restricted list.

November 9-12: GM and Owners Meeting in Boca Raton Florida

Annual meeting of GMs and Owners in Florida. Not as active or publicized as the winter meetings but the groundwork to many trades and free agent deals likely begin here.

November 20: Rule 5 Draft Protection

Deadline to protect eligible players from the Rule 5 Draft by adding them to the 40-man roster.

December 2: Non-tender deadline

Deadline to tender contracts to players still under team control. Expect to hear Mike Minor's name mentioned quite a bit in the days ahead of this deadline.

December 7-10: Winter Meetings in Nashville, Tennessee

The annual December Winter Meetings are usually the pinnacle of the offseason. This is typically the time of the year when the most activity happens and rumors run rampant.

December 10: Rule 5 Draft

Minor League players non on a team's 40-man roster who have been in professional baseball for four (for college players) or five (for high school players) Rule 5 Drafts are eligible to be selected. During the Major League portion of the draft, any player selected must remain on that team's active roster for the entire season or be offered back to their original club. The Braves currently have a pair of players on their 40-man roster who were selected in last year's Rule 5 Draft in Andrew McKirahan and Daniel Winkler.

January 15: Exchange of Arbitration figures

Arbitration eligible players and their clubs exchange potential salary figures. Atlanta currently has five players who are eligible for arbitration (assuming none are non-tendered) in Mike Minor, Shelby Miller, Pedro Ciriaco, Arodys Vizcaino and Chris Withrow. The Braves may elect to avoid arbitration with many of these players to work out more team friendly deals (Minor) or long term extensions (Miller).

February 1-21: Arbitration hearings

If the teams and the players can't come to an agreement then they will go to arbitration where a panel will hear player and club presentations and will then decide to award the player his submission or the club's.
