Welcome to our coverage of the Arizona Fall League. We will be recapping all of the games played by the Peoria Javelinas which have 7 Braves' minor leaguers on the roster. Without further adieu...lets get back to some minor league action
(0-1) Surprise Saguaros 5 vs. (1-0) Peoria Javelinas 6
- Lucas Sims, SP: 2.0 IP, 3 H, 3 R (2 ER), 1 BB, 3 K
- Connor Lien, CF: 1-3, 1 HBP, 1 run, 2 K
The Javelinas rallied late with a 5-run 8th inning to emerge victorious in the season opener against he Surprise Saguaros, 6-5. Lucas Sims drew the start for the Javelinas and worked 2 innings where he worked 2 innings and gave up three hits (including a 3-run homer to Yankees' prospect Gary Sanchez). Only two of the runs were earned that he gave up on the day and accounts were that he was mixing velocity well and other than making a mistake to Sanchez it was a good outing. Connor Lien had a stat line that was very Lien-ish. He got a hit on a single where he hit a ball hard to second base and used his legs to beat the throw. He also was hit by a pitch, advanced around to score a run....and also struck out twice. While we didn't get to see Lien showcase his arm in center field as he is known to do, was still a solid if somewhat unexciting debut for Lien in the AFL.
No other Braves played in the game, so hopefully we will see more Braves' minor leaguers in the games to come. For now, its just good to get back to the business of following some minor league baseball.
