Game Thread 10/1: Braves vs. Nationals

New, 45 comments

The Atlanta Braves go for the sweep over the Washington Nationals on Thursday night.

Something that would have seemed highly unlikely just a short time ago is one game away from becoming a reality: the Atlanta Braves sweeping the Washington Nationals.

After winning 2-1 on Tuesday night and 2-0 Wednesday evening, the Braves send rookie right hander Ryan Weber to the mound to nail down the sweep. Weber will oppose flame-throwing Stephen Strasburg, who has been excellent in his past three starts, posting a 0.78 ERA.

Atlanta named John Coppolella the team's general manager earlier in the day.

Hector Olivera was originally penciled into the lineup at third base, but was scratched due to a left elbow contusion, presumably from being hit by a pitch in that spot Tuesday.
