Even though Shae Simmons' past few outings weren't exactly as sharp as they were around the time when he debuted (including his last appearance on Saturday which is when he struck out 1 Padre but then walked the next 2), there was really no reason to believe that he was injured, unless you were cynical. Unfortunately, it turns out that cynicism was the proper path to take here, as news has come out that the rookie righty has a strained right shoulder and has been placed on the 15-day DL.

His replacement in the bullpen will be AAA International League All-Star Juan Jaime, who had a cup of coffee with the big league team last month, making 4 one-inning appearances for the Braves against the Nationals and Astros. 3 of those appearances were scoreless outings. Over in the suburbs, Jaime's currently got an ERA of 2.25 and a FIP of 3.64, but he also has a pretty encouraging xFIP of 1.33. The flamethrower was reliable in the few appearances he made for the Braves last month, so here's hoping that he'll do just as well over the next couple of weeks while Shae heals.
Meanwhile, Shae will be heading to the DL with an ERA of 2.91, a FIP of 3.14 and an xFIP of 3.24 over 26 appearances. Hopefully, Simmons will come back healthy and regain the form that made him such a reliable spoke on the wheel that is the Braves bullpen in 2014.
