Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders @ Gwinnett Braves - Suspended
This one was postponed by rain, but not before Gwinnett gave up 8 runs in 3 innings. Oy.
Mississippi Braves 3, Tennessee Smokies 6
- Jose Peraza, 2B: 2-5, 2 SB(15,16), CS(7), .374
- Kyle Wren, CF: 3-4, 2B(6), 3B(1), .301
- Cedric Hunter, LF: 1-3, HR(10), .287
- J.R. Graham, SP: 1 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 0 K, 5.61 ERA
Mississippi only notched six hits, and five of them were from the Peraza/Wren duo. Peraza notched two singles and two steals, while Kyle Wren was a homer shy of the cycle and is now hitting over .300 during his AA stint. The lone other M-Brave hit was a two-run homer off the bat of Cedric Hunter. J.R. Graham started for Mississippi, and since I can't use the smiling poop emoji, I'll just describe his line with this:
Ian was present for this game, and may provide a more in-depth report later.
Salem Red Sox 12, Lynchburg Hillcats 3
- David Nick, RF: 3-4, 2B(11), HR(4), .292
- Jose Martinez, LF: 2-5, .350
- Daniel Watts, SP: 3.2 IP, 10 H, 9 R(7 ER), 0 BB, 4 K, 6.06 ERA
- Mauricio Cabrera, RP: 2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 3.66 ERA
Lynchburg is fast challenging Rome for the title of 'Most Depressing Braves Affiliate', especially given the recent promotions of Peraza and Wren. David Nick was a triple shy of the cycle, but that's pretty much the only exciting thing that happened on offense. Daniel Watts was absolutely shelled in his start, and Mauricio Cabrera wasn't much better in relief of him. Just an awful, forgettable game all around.
Delmarva Shorebirds 0, Rome Braves 8
- Carlos Franco, 3B: 3-5, .239
- Connor Oliver, CF: 2-5, .265
- Connor Lien, LF: 1-2, 2 BB, .260
- Johan Camargo, SS: 1-4, 2B(13), BB, .259
- Matt Marksberry, SP: 7 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K, 3.77 ERA
Despite only a single strikeout, Matt Marksberry hurled seven innings of one-hit ball with two walks. A 9:9 groundout:flyout ratio, along with his one strikeout, seems to point to this being a very lucky start, but I'm sure he'll take it. Carlos Franco had a three-hit game, while Connor Lien also reached base three times with a single and two walks. Johan Camargo and Connor Oliver keyed the Rome offense, as they each reached twice (plus an error) at the top of the order and scored 5 runs between them.
Burlington Royals @ Danville Braves - Suspended
Rain, rain, go away.
GCL Braves 0, GCL Astros 3
- Braxton Davidson, DH: 1-3, 2B(5), BB, .230
- Jose Morel, LF: 1-3, BB, .227
- Luke Dykstra, 2B: 0-2, 2 BB, .306
- Garrett Fulenchek, SP: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 3 BB, 3 K, 4.30 ERA
The GCL team only managed two hits yesterday. Braxton Davidson continues his recent spate of good hitting, drilling a double and walking for the second straight game. Jose Morel accounted for the other GCL hit. Luke Dykstra did reach twice on a pair of walks, however. Garrett Fulenchek made his longest start of the year, tossing 4 innings of one-run ball. He struck out three, but also walked three.
