Not much has changed since last week's showdown between the Braves and Giants in Atlanta. The Giants got the better of the Braves at Turner Field, now the duel heads out west to AT&T Park where the visiting Braves hope to gain some measure of revenge for the sweep they suffered at the hands of the Giants, who have now won 13 out of their last 17 games.
The Giants will be without first baseman Brandon Belt, who suffered a broken thumb on Friday, for six weeks. Thus, they will employ Michael Morse as the primary first baseman in Belt's absence.
Atlanta has dropped five of eight at AT&T Park and Monday's starter, Tim Lincecum, is 6-2 with a 2.24 ERA against the Braves in his home ballpark. The offense does, however, have a glimmer of hope in the series finale against Madison Bumgarner, who oddly enough has not had good results at home, giving up 11 runs (10 earned) and 22 hits in 15.1 innings so far (5.87 ERA).
When the Braves last saw Pablo Sandoval, he was hitting .177. Although he's still under .200 for the year, he had seven hits in seven games with his first RBI since April 16. His three-hit game Sunday was just his fourth multi-hit game of the year. Buster Posey though, has been on fire, hitting .455 with eight walks since the series in Atlanta. No matter how good he's been, he was still, and always will be, out.
Despite the five-run outburst on Sunday, the Braves are still hitting just .210 in their last 13 games.
