The Atlanta Braves have acquired right-handed pitcher Roman Colon from the Pittsburgh Pirates. He will be assigned to the triple-A Gwinnett Braves. Colon may be familiar to many Braves fans as a one-time prospect for Atlanta. He was traded by the Braves in 2007 to Detroit in exchange for Kyle Farnsworth (the first Farns trade).
Colon was traded by the Tigers two years later to the Royals, and put up his most productive year in their bullpen in 2009, appearing in 43 games. He appeared for the Royals in three games last year, and signed as a free agent this past off-season with the Pirates. He's appeared in just one game at triple-A this year for the Pirates.
He is 33-years old, so at this point he's more of a journeyman bullpen arm, and is likely just depth the Braves want stashed at triple-A. Who knows, maybe they know something about him and can turn his career around.
The press release did not say what the Braves sent to Pittsburgh, but I imagine "his" name was ca$h.
