Braves hitters were a combined 0-11 with four strikeouts and a walk in Tuesday's action in the desert. Tommy La Stella was the only Braves hitter to reach base, drawing a walk in four plate apperances, bringing his walk-to-strikeout ratio to 12:1. Two of his outs were via line-drives to the center fielder. Robby Hefflnger and Kyle Kubitza continued their poor showing of late, both taking a pair of strikeouts in four plate appearances. While Kubitza struggles to make contact, he's still showing a good approach at the plate, as evidenced by his eight walks and .378 on-base percentage thus far. Say it with me: plate discipline is not a tool, but a good approach can certainly help one's hitting skills play up. By most accounts, this will be Kubitza's calling card throughout his career, as his fringy pure hitting skills will be supplemented by a great approach at the plate. Pair that with decent power projection, a plus arm, and competent fielding skills, and the former 3rd-rounder may find a way to carve out a career at the highest level.
No pitchers from the Braves organization took the mound on Tuesday. Scottsdale will face Mesa this afternoon.
