The Atlanta Braves Will Have A Great Rotation ... If The Fans Are Right

New, 21 comments

The results of the Atlanta Braves starting pitcher fan projections are in ... and they look pretty rosy. Over the past week we asked the readers of Talking Chop to predict the numbers for the Braves four main starting pitchers. Here are the results, as an average of all the submissions:

Pitcher/Projection
Inn. Pitched
ERA
Strikeouts
Walks
Derek Lowe
205
3.87
140
65
Tim Hudson
212
3.17
148
65
Tommy Hanson
208
3.08
196
64
Jair Jurrjens
194
3.49
147
64

Actually, those numbers make me laugh (out loud). It's not so much a prediction of each pitcher so much as it is a generic positive view of all pitchers. Perhaps if anything it shows the optimism of this time of year. I especially like how the walks numbers essentially came out the same.

So was this projection exercise futile? I guess not. Even the subtle differences in the numbers above can tell us which pitchers the fans favor. At least we'll have something to revisit at the end of the year so we can see how right or how wrong we were.

For reference sake, Scott Sanderson's career 162-game averages are 198/.3.84/125/48.

We'll start with some hitter projections tomorrow.
