Gwinnett 4, Durham 6
Matt Young and Freddie Freeman are so hot that they caused the guy who hits between them, Wes Timmons, to get hot. The little third baseman had 4 hits and drove in 2 runs while Young, who's played mostly second base lately, rapped out his 21st and 22nd doubles of the season and Freeman extended his hitting streak to 10 games, clubbing out his 10th homer, his 4th in his last 7 games. Ryne Reynoso's up and down season continues, this time trending down.
Mississippi 8, West Tennessee 0
Jesus Sucre continues his hot hitting, while playing third base for just the second time in his career. Wilie Cabrera collects another pair of hits and hopefully he'll earn a promotion to AAA after the All-Star Break so Gwinnett doesn't have to rely on Willy Taveras. Erik Cordier has won his last 2 starts, allowing just 2 earned runs in 12 innings. Kyle Cofield returns after missing 2 months and is great in relief.
Myrtle Beach 4, Salem 10
Since joining the Pelicans, Myke Jones hasn't gone 2 game in a row without collecting a hit. After allowing 4 earned runs in his last 13 innings, covering 2 starts, Matt Crim allowed 9 earned in just 4.1 innings tonight. Zeke Spruill made a fantastic return from the disabled list, shutting out the Red Sox over 2 innings while striking out 4. Of course, the fact that his ERA still stands at 10.45 shows how poorly he started the season.
Rome 0, Savannah 1
If RSF hadn't broken his hand and missed 2 months of the season I have no doubt he'd be playing for Myrtle Beach right now. Edward Salcedo collects his first extra base hit in America. After allowing 8 earned runs in his last 7 innings, covering 2 starts, Robinson Lopez only allows 1 tonigh, but still takes the tough luck loss. After striking out 7 in 4 scoreless innings, over 2 appearances, for Danville, Matt Fouch was promoted to Rome and dished out more of the same. The lefty, who was selected in the 34th round this year, is already 22, so this early success is promising.
Danville 5, Johnson City 11
GCL Braves - Off
DSL Braves 6, DSL Angels 11
The pitchers really got knocked around in this one. Aris Alcantra has his second straight 3 hit game, going 6-8 with 3 doubles and a triple in that span. For the season the 20 year old first baseman is hitting .311 with a .887 OPS. 19 year old Gerardo Reyes is playing decently as the team's leadoff hitter, with a .270 average and a .697 OPS. He's stolen 11 bases and only been caught once.
