Charlotte 9, Gwinnett 4
- N. McLouth 2-4 HR(1), .364 Avg
- F. Freeman 1-3 BB, .287 Avg
- JC Boscan 3-4 HR(1), 2 RBI, .229 Avg
- C. Kimbrel 1IP 0H 0R 1BB 2K 0.82 ERA
Gwinnett closes the 1st half out with a 5 game losing streak intact that has been the result of some pretty poor pitching performances. I am happy to see Nate McLouth getting some hits and hitting with a little power. If we can get get a healthy Nate and Jason Heyward back to start the second half that would be the equivalent of pulling off a blockbuster trade without having to give anything up.

Myrtle Beach 2, Wilmington 3 - 10 Innings
- My. Jones 0-3 2BB, 2K, .296 Avg
- C. Miles 2-3 BB, SB(27), .263 Avg
- B. Oberholtzer 4IP 2H 0R 1BB 5K 4.15 ERA
Mycal Jones has been slumping a bit after his hot start posting a .486 OPS in July. He is walking more in Myrtle Beach and striking out just a little bit less to go along with less HR power (more a product of Coastal Field I would wager). Brett Oberholtzer made a nice transition back to the rotation after missing some time and then returning to bullpen action when Vizcaino and Teheran were promoted.
Charleston 3, Rome 4
- C. Bethancourt 1-4 2B, .252 Avg
- C. Brewer 5IP 6H 3R 2BB 2K 3.86 ERA
- D. Hale 4IP 4H 0R 0BB 2K 5.43 ERA
David Hale's numbers as a starter:
27IP 49H 32R 14BB 15K 9.00 ERA 1.72 GO/AO
David Hale's numbers as a reliever:
27.2IP 22H 7R 9BB 30K 1.95 ERA 2.92 GO/AO
The kicker to all of this? He has appeared in 9 games at reliever and 7 as a starter. His relief appearances are generally of the long variety. Also if you remove his reliever appearance from May 29 where he went 3 innings and gave up 5 runs but actually started the second half of a game that was delayed till the next day, then his numbers look even more fantastic as a reliever! I really want to know what his deal is with the two positions. I he pitching out of the stretch when he relieves? Is it just a mental barrier? EXPLAIN!!!!
Pulaski 7, Danville 6
- J. Terdoslavich 2-5 2 RBI, CS(1), .240 Avg
- J. Whitmer 1-3 2B, 2 RBI, K, .318 Avg
- J. Frierson 2-3 BB, K, .364 Avg
A couple of the regulars got days off for Danville today. Lucas La Point gave up just 2 runs in his first two games for the Braves but has allowed 12 in his last 2 (10.1 innings). He is just 19 years old and was solid in the GCL last year though he had some issues with control. This season he has ironed out the control issues while maintaining a solid K rate but he has given up 5 HR in the last two games. I don't know much about the kid, but outside of those HRs his peripherals look good and may indicate some future success.
