Braves Minor League Recaps 9/13... a Wild Win!

New, 6 comments

Carolina 2, Mississippi 3 in 10

The Mississippi Braves pulled off the Southern League Championship in unusual fashion. With the score tied 2-2 in the tenth inning, back to back hits by JC Holt and Matt Young put the winning run on second base and in scoring position with one out. With Reid Gorecki up to bat, the Mudcats pitcher threw a wild pitch on which the runners attempted to advance. The catcher quickly recovered the ball and threw down to second base hitting the shortstop in the face after a bad hop; as the ball got away JC Holt rounded third and scored the winning run.

The Braves won three games in extra innings to win the five-game series. Kala Ka'aihue was named the MVP of the series. The Braves efforts in this game were helped tremendously by their Southern League-best defense which turned four double-plays.

  • K. Ka'aihue 2-4, RBI
  • J. Holt 2-5, 2B, 2R
  • M. Young 2-5, RB
